Ian-Rogers.com is now the first site that pops up when you run a Google search on “Ian Rogers.”
It used to take you to a bunch of pages on some retired Australian chess grandmaster named Ian Rogers. Or an actor named Ian Rogers. Or the head of Yahoo! Music whose name is, yes, Ian Rogers. Now I dominate them all!!!
Okay, so it’s only a big deal to webheads like me, but on the other hand it does make it easier for people to find me on the Web. My name isn’t entirely uncommon, not like that Simon Strantzas guy, so I’ll take any edge I can get to steer traffic this way.

You need the J to find me at the top and even then there’s a facebook profile about 5th or 6th down the page that isn’t me.
Catherine Gardner without the J is an American Actress - I’m stuffed.
Yeah, that guy’s a real jerk store.
Cate — Maybe you should go by Cat Gardiner, or something like that. Not that Catherine J. Gardiner isn’t catchy.
Simon — I just saw that episode the other day. One of my favourites. I love that he flies across the country to deliver that shot.
BTW, when I do a Google search, you come up ninth. Sorry :-(
(PS: I’m still number one!)
That’s weird. I get number one on my search. I wonder why that would be…
I finally have beaten the Palm Beach Post reporter Allyson Bird so I know how you feel :>)
Ahh, we all have our Google nemeses.
About five minutes ago, I searched for Ian Rogers on Google. The first reference was on the second page, and was a post on another site, rather than an entry at ian-rogers.com. Not until the third page did a link to ian-rogers.com appear.
Why would such “intermittent surfacing’ happen on Google? Probably has something to do with ad revenue influencing the compilation of results. One or more sites that reference Ian Rogers might be paying for better placement. I know a little bit about this because my former boss was paying both Google and Yahoo and ungodly sum of money each month to make sure her personal site surfaced first when people searched for her name.
Oh, her tactic worked in part.
Weird. I don’t know why that would be. Must be part of the Google conspiracy. Or something in my cache, maybe. I dunno. Not much ad revenue circulating with my website, that’s for sure. :)
You’re number one on my Google search!
Thanks, babe. You’re number one with me, too. (Awwwwwwww…)
